The Central Bureau of Investigation, which had not long ago made a presentation before the Central Government highlighting severe financial crunch, has been allocated Rs.520.56 crore, an increase of over 17 per cent compared to the last fiscal.
The allocation has been made for infrastructural development, establishment of technical and forensic units, modernisation of training apparatus, and construction of residential complexes of the CBI branches. The budget allocation to the CBI for the last financial year stood at Rs.443.92 crore.
A few weeks ago, the CBI had apprised the government of its inability to even pay for the maintenance of its Delhi headquarters and completion of the proposed Mumbai hub. Facing immense financial crunch, the CBI was not able to pay remunerations to its prosecutors.

Besides, the Government has allocated about Rs.205 crore to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension for establishment-related expenditure on the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. The institutions run training programmes for bureaucrats.
The Ministry had been allocated Rs.184.25 crore for the last fiscal.
