RSP concludes May with impressive production

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered impressive output performance in its major production units during May 2011.

The plant has achieved an all time best performance for the months of April and May since inception by producing 3,84,742 tonnes of hot metal, 3,54,797 tonnes of crude steel and 3,33,578 tonnes of saleable steel, company officials said.

All the units operated well over capacity, achieving impressive capacity utilisation of 115 percent, they said.

During May, 2011 hot metal production stood at 2, 00,079 tonnes and crude steel output was at 1, 89,451 tonnes, which were the best compared to month of May since inception of the steel plant.

Similarly, saleable steel production reached an impressive 1, 68,567 tonnes.

The production centres recorded an impressive growth of 6.3 percent, 9.4 percent and 8.4 percent respectively as compared to the levels achieved in May 2010, sources said.

A number of finishing units of RSP also performed with distinction during April and May of fiscal 2011-12, registering growth over the corresponding period of last fiscal.

In a highly competitive steel market, RSP had been continuing its thrust on improving its profitability.

This is through adopting a strategy of increasing production volumes through maximisation of capacity utilisation with a view to controlling cost of production.

During April-May, the steel plant achieved all time best figures in its techno-economic parameters, namely coke rate per tonne of hot metal and energy consumption per tonne of crude steel.
