Zarin Daruwalla to head Stanchart India

November 17, 2015 11:06 pm | Updated 11:06 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Standard Chartered has appointed Zarin Daruwalla as the chief executive officer of its India operations — a position which fell vacant after Sunil Kaushal moved on to lead the Africa and Middle East business, end of September.  She comes from ICICI Bank where she was heading the wholesale banking division as president. She was also on the board of a few of ICICI group companies.  Ms. Daruwalla who is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary - joins the British bank at a time when the lender has decided to prune some of its India operations. Earlier this month, the bank decided to reduce its unsecured retail and corporate business in India as part of its global restructuring exercise that will cut 15,000 jobs worldwide.  “Zarin will be based in Mumbai and report to Ajay Kanwal, Regional CEO, ASEAN & South Asia. Anurag Adlakha will continue as Acting CEO, India, alongside his existing responsibilities as CFO, India, until Zarin takes up her appointment,” Standard Chartered said in a press statement.
