Xiaomi unveils new products

Smartphone maker Xiaomi on Thursday unveiled seven new products, including smart TVs along with a wide range of ecosystem gadgets such as fitness band, security camera, air purifier and luggage.

“Going into the future, we don’t see [ourselves] just [only as] a smartphone company. We will definitely expand into many more categories. We’ve already done that here,” said Raghu Reddy, head, category and online sales, Xiaomi India, in an interview.

Xiaomi introduced three variants of Mi LED Smart TV Pro. These new generation of Mi LED TVs come with Xiaomi’s own PatchWall interface specially designed for India bringing together more than 14 different content partners. These are both local and global, resulting in over 700,000 hours of content, across the largest library of video-on-demand providers. Some of the top content partners include Hotstar, Hungama and Eros Now. Amazon Prime Video will also be available soon on PatchWall, said the company. Backed by Android TV, users will be able to install their desired apps on Google Play, watch YouTube videos and fully utilize features such as Chromecast built-in and Google Voice Search.

“TV is a massive market, it is the second biggest category in the country [after] smartphones,” said Mr.Reddy. “We believe that everyone buying a TV would like to upgrade to smart TV [if it provides real value], and that’s what we’re trying to achieve with the Mi TVs.”

Mi LED TV 4A Pro (49) and Mi LED TV 4C Pro (32) are priced at ₹29,999 and ₹14,999 respectively. The Mi LED TV 4 PRO (55) costs ₹49,999.

Xiaomi is bringing the latest iteration of its wildly popular wearable to India, Mi Band 3. It includes a large OLED touchscreen display, improved alerts and 50m water resistance. Mi Band 3 which is priced at ₹1,999 can now display contents of notifications from the phone of the user. Other new features include a built-in

stopwatch, a phone locating function, and an independent vibrating alarm function that works even when the phone is turned off.

“Mi Band is already a top-selling wearable in the country. We account for about 45.8% of the overall market,” said Mr.Reddy.

The company also announced Mi Air Purifier 2S, which features a 360-degree tower design sporting a crisp OLED display. It can be remotely controlled using the Mi Home app, Google Assistant and Alexa.

Security Camera

In the smart living category, Xiaomi also introduced Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P. Equipped with night vision, intelligent motion detection, real-time two-way talk, users can monitor their home’s real-time status.

Xiaomi also unveiled Mi Luggage which the company said is made from ‘Makrolon’, a polycarbonate material that makes Mi Luggage extremely durable. It said the wheels have “excellent load bearing and noise reduction properties” allowing users to carry the suitcase effortlessly across all types of surfaces, including carpets and gravel. The luggage which has a specially-designed TSA-approved combination lock and an ergonomic handle is available in two sizes which are priced at ₹2,999 and ₹4,299.

“We are trying to bring products at an honest price...but it’ll always meet a certain threshold of quality that our customers expect from us,” said Mr.Reddy.
