Titan Company started commercial production of stainless steel cases at its manufacturing facility established at Kallapalayam near here on Tuesday.
The company has invested nearly Rs.75 crore at the plant.
Titan Company Managing Director Bhaskar Bhat told presspersons that the manufacturing unit, which had come up on 11.3 acres, had the capacity to produce two million pieces a year.

Epson had extended technical support service to Titan for setting up the plant. The plant will produce one million pieces in 14-16 months and two million pieces in about three years.
“Demand will drive capacity,” he said.
“As we move forward, about 70 per cent of our stainless steel case imports will be met by the plant,” he added. The plant gives the capability to make stainless steel cases for high end watches, according to Titan Company Chief Executive Officer (Watches and Accessories) H. G. Raghunath.

The plant had tool design, manufacturing, press shop, machining and assembling facilities. It also had four vendors here for auxiliary services.
Employment at the plant would be about 150 in a year, and would be scaled up eventually, he added.
“By investing in a new stainless steel watch case manufacturing plant at Coimbatore, we aim to cater to the emerging demands in the premium segment,” Mr. Raghunath said in a press release.
Mr. Bhat said that Titan planned to set up a plant for manufacturing of frames for eyewear. The details of the project were yet to be decided.
Titan, which is into manufacture of watches, jewellery and eyewear, registered 16 per cent growth in income in the first nine months of the current financial year.
