Retail inflation eases a tad in July

Retail inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), eased a tad to 9.64 per cent in July from 9.87 per cent in the previous month, mainly on account of prices softening in the case of some select food items such as cereals, pulses, sugar and fruits.

The official data on CPI inflation released here on Monday revealed that the gradual moderation in retail inflation to sub-10 per cent over the past few months has been owing to easing of food inflation though the price spiral in that segment still remains well over the 10 per cent mark.
