After the successful roll-out of MG Hector, MG Motor India, the wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor of China, has lined up plans to introduce three more SUVs, which will be introduced by June 2021.

These include the all-electric ZS EV SUV and two more that are under development now.

“The electric car ZS EV will come at the end of this calendar year. Early next year, we start its delivery to the consumer. Over the next 18 months, we will be launching two more products. So before June 2021, we will have three more vehicles,” Gaurav Gupta, chief commercial officer, MG Motor India, said in an interview. He said the company, which initially received bookings for 30,000 units for its maiden offering Hector, has ramped up production to fast track delivery and to reduce the waiting period.

Since June, over 6,500 units have been delivered and by October end, the target is to deliver 10,000 units. Those who had made bookings in the first phase should get their deliveries before March, 2020, Mr. Gupta said.

Production ramp-up

“We are ramping up production. We are announcing the opening of a second shift from November,” he said.

With already 120 centres functional through a network of 45 dealers, MG Motor is planning to expand it to 250 centres by the end of this year.
