Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India, on Wednesday announced no-production days at its Gurugram and Manesar plants in Haryana on September 7 and 9.

“Maruti Suzuki India Limited has decided to shut down the passenger vehicle manufacturing operations of Gurugram Plant and Manesar Plant in Haryana for two days, on 7th and 9th September, 2019. Both days will be observed as no-production days,” said a company press statement.

Sources in the Gurugram plant said that the decision was aimed at correcting the mismatch between production and sales. “Since the sales are not matching the production, the company has decided to shut down manufacturing operations to clear the stock. It can be seen as an impact of the slowdown in the automotive sector that has adversely hit the sales,” said the source.

Maruti Suzuki has witnessed a fall in sales of late due to host of factors following which the contract of 3,000 temporary workers was not renewed. Around 700 contractual workers have also been told to proceed on leave.

The slowdown has adversely hit around 3,000 automotive units in Gurugram-Manesar-Bawal belt, an “auto hub”, leading to layoffs and loss of business.
