LEMKEN, Germany-based manufacturer of agro equipment, will invest Rs.50 crore in India during the next couple of years as part of its plan to expand operations here.

Arvind Kumar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LEMKEN India Agro Equipment (a 100 per cent subsidiary of LEMKEN GmbH), told The Hindu here on Friday that the Indian manufacturing facility at Nagpur was commissioned in 2012 and commercial production commenced in January last year.

Nearly Rs.70 crore was invested in the first phase. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 3,000 units of hydraulic ploughs a year. It manufactured and sold about 450 units last year. This year, it plans to increase production to 1,000 units and also export to South Africa.

The Indian plant produces three models of hydraulic reversible plough. LEMKEN will introduce power harrow in the Indian market by the end of this year.

According to Mr. Kumar, LEMKEN has assembling plants in China and Russia and a manufacturing facility in India, apart from three units in Germany.
