IFMR Capital diversifies

September 08, 2014 11:46 pm | Updated 11:46 pm IST - CHENNAI:

IFMR Capital has diversified from micro finance to other sectors such as affordable housing, commercial vehicle financing and agriculture loans.

For IFMR Capital, which helps institutions raise debt, micro finance accounts for 65 per cent of its exposure, while other segments account for 35 per cent.

“We started with micro finance five years ago, and that was our predominant business even year-and-half back. Post that, we realised that micro finance is just one need people at the bottom of the pyramid have. They have multiple requirements which a micro finance loan entity does not give,” Kshama Fernandes, CEO of IFMR Capital, said.

IFMR Capital closed last year with a volume of Rs.3,500 crore, and arranged Rs 7,500 crore worth of financing. The firm works with 60 clients across 24 States.

Ms. Frenandes also said interest in investing in these forms of asset classes was coming from bank treasuries, NBFCs and high net worth individuals.
