Fillip to garment exports

The latest move to source merchandise from India will fetch an additional $3 billion in foreign exchange for the country.    

Exports of apparels and ready made garments are likely to get a big boost with India attaining the status of a factory compliant country with international retail chains and brands placing orders which are likely to exceed $3 billion. Retail chain stores and international brands such as Walmart, GAP, American Eagle, JC Penny, Target, Sears, Tommy, Nike, Abercrombie & Fitch, Old Navy, and Sara Lee are among the few known to maintain highest standards of factory compliance.

The latest move to source merchandise from India will fetch an additional $3 billion in foreign exchange for the country.

Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman A. Sakthivel said that India had been chosen due to the persistent improvement in factory capacity building. This was done with the help of the AEPC Common Code of Conduct – DISHA, an initiative of the Ministry of Textiles.
