ATS Elgi, manufacturer of automobile service equipment and a fully-owned subsidiary of Elgi Equipments, is entering the business to consumer segment by launching Autosure, which is a facility to test cars.

Ramesh Ponnuswami, Managing Director of ATS Elgi, told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the first such centre has been set up in Coimbatore and the company plans to have about 200 such car-testing laboratories across the country in another three years.

These will be company-owned and through franchisees. Autosure will be a division of ATS Elgi.

The company has invested Rs. 1.5 crore at the 3,000 sq.ft facility here and can test 15 to 20 cars a day. Customers can book an appointment online and the tests will take less than a couple of hours.

The laboratory will have equipment, manufactured by ATS Elgi and those sourced from its overseas partners, to carry out 150 tests on a car. The tests will be on the systems in the vehicle, such as brakes, suspension, and engine.

“We do not put value to the car, we do not buy or sell vehicles and the facility is not to service the vehicle. The comprehensive report will give information about the condition of the vehicle. It will benefit buyers and sellers pre-owned cars,” he said.
