Low-cost carrier AirAsia will start flying to Jaipur and Chandigarh from Bangalore from September 5.

The budget carrier, which currently operates daily flights to Goa, Chennai and Kochi from Bangalore, will add the northern cities to its network from September. As part of this expansion, AirAsia has also offered a fare of Rs.1,299 for the Bangalore-Goa route. Mittu Chandilya, Chief Executive Officer, AirAsia India, said that its existing three routes were operating at higher than expected load capacity. He hoped the airline would achieve higher load factor in the new routes.

It has been sustaining a load factor of about 96 per cent on the Bangalore-Goa route.

The Bangalore-Kochi service, which started on July 20, has been reporting a load factor of about 98 per cent. “We had budgeted a load factor of 75-80 per cent for our routes. But we have done much better than the target,” he said.

The Bangalore-Chennai route was having a load factor of 85 per cent, he said. The objective would be to increase it further, he added. AirAsia India, he said, planned to add five more flights before November.

Mr. Chandilya said the airline had tied-up with Globe Air Cargo, part of the France-headquartered ECS group and a leading global player in managing cargo services for airline operators, to handle cargo sales in its passenger aircraft.

It would offer to carry up to 3.5 tonnes of cargo per aircraft. AirAsia hoped to generate at least 10 per cent of revenues from such cargo services, he said.
