New airline Air Pegasus is set to commence domestic operations in two weeks, joining other new entrants such as AirAsia India and Vistara to enhance air connectivity in the country.

The Bengaluru-based airline, owned by Decor Aviation Private Ltd which has received all clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will start flying to Thiruvananthapuram and Hubballi from Bengaluru starting April 12, the company said here on Wednesday.

The airline will begin with a fleet of two ATR aircraft with 66 seats each and one more ATR aircraft will join this month.

“We have received an Air Operators Permit (AOP) from the DGCA and plan to launch our ticketing system on 4 April 2015 and launch operations by 12 April 2015. We already have two ATR-72 aircraft in our fleet that is sufficient to operate the three sectors we have planned,” Air Pegasus Managing Director Shyson Thomas said.

“The connectivity provided by these routes will help many regional businesses expand their reach to and beyond,” he added.

The airline will be a regional player and will enhance connectivity to underserved sectors in the southern region.

Initially, Air Pegasus has plans to scale up its operations in the three sectors and will later fly to Kochi, Chennai, Tuticorin, Belagavi, Rajahmundry, Puduicherry and Madurai, it said.

Air Pegasus will be India's tenth airline after Air India, Jet Airways, JetLite (formerly Air Sahara), SpiceJet, GoAir, IndiGo, Air Costa, AirAsia India and Vistara.

The new airline, promoted by ground-handling services provider Decor Aviation, will have an initial investment of Rs.100 crore through internal resources and debt.
