India's third largest IT services exporter Wipro Ltd. on Monday announced the appointment of appointment of former TCS top executive Mr. Abid Ali Neemuchwala as the Group President and Chief Operating Officer of the company. According to a press release from the company the appointment will be effective from April 1, 2015.
In his previous role with Tata Consultancy Services, Mr Neemuchwala was heading the Business Process Services globally. Apart from this he was also involved in several leadership roles during his 23-year-long career with TCS.
In his role in Wipro, Mr. Neemuchwala will head the service lines of Global Infrastructure Services, Business Application Services, Business Process Services, and Advanced Technology Solutions.

He will also head Business Operations; the geographies comprising Continental Europe, Africa, and Latin America; Strategic Engagements, Advisor Relationships as well as the Marketing function, the company added in its press announcement.

The COO position in Wipro had been lying vacant since September 2009. Earlier Wipro had appointed A. L. Rao as COO from June 2005 to September 2008 after the quitting of Vivek Paul as CEO in 2005. Mr. Rao was then also made an advisor in October 2008 till his retirement in September 2009.
