As part of fleet restructuring, loss-ridden SpiceJet has started cancelling 40 flights a day from its schedule.

“SpiceJet is temporarily removing 40 flights a day from its schedule as part of a fleet restructuring plan. It is expected to last another 10 days or so,” SpiceJet said in an emailed statement.

However, details of how passengers will be notified and their alternative travel could not be ascertained.

The low cost carrier had earlier this month reported 5th straight quarter of net losses for the July-September period at Rs. 310 crore, although it is down from the year-ago period when the net loss was Rs. 559 crore. The losses came down as the airline witnessed a 15 per cent growth in total revenue. For the past fiscal, the airline had reported a record loss of a little over Rs 1,000 crore.

Commenting on reports that DGCA had begun checks for safety, the airline said, “We wish to clarify that it is completely untrue. We categorically deny that the DGCA has launched any safety or service check on SpiceJet.”
