SkyPower partners BYD to bid for solar projects

Canadian renewable energy company SkyPower has partnered with the Chinese manufacturer BYD Co. Ltd. on a bid in the upcoming tenders for as much as 750 megawatts of solar power generation and energy storage capacity in India.

The agreement was signed during the opening ceremony of the China-Canada economic and trade cooperation conference, according to a statement from SkyPower.

India will conduct an electronic auction for 750 megawatts of capacity in a solar park in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. The project, located in Rewa district, has been in development for almost two years.

SkyPower debuted in India’s solar auctions in July, winning half of the 300 megawatts of capacity on offer in the state of Madhya Pradesh at a tariff of Rs.5.05 a kilowatt-hour, joining slew of foreign firms which have derived down solar prices.

The company also won 200 megawatts of solar projects in the southern state of Telangana.

SkyPower is also looking to sell equity stake in its Indian projects and as named Greenstone Energy Advisors as the advisor.
