MeshMedia, a proximity service app developed by a Swedish start-up to enable offline sharing of images, film and music content among multiple mobile devices, is to be rolled out in India next year.

“It runs without any of the mobile devices used being connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, cellular network or any other access point,” Y.R.Rao, managing director (India) of TerraNet AB said.

Such sharing of media content is possible between mobile devices, within a radius of 200 metres, on which the app has been downloaded. Streaming to unlimited number of devices and wider range are also aspects differentiating MeshMedia from competition, a list in which Miracast, Google Chromecast and Apple Air Play figure.

The five-year-old start-up has also partnered with Qualcomm to embed the application in the chip-sets. The architecture is derived from IEEE 802.11s Mesh standard and the company has applied for a patent, he said.
