Nasscom conclave showcases start-ups

November 10, 2010 12:01 am | Updated 12:01 am IST - BANGALORE:

As a precursor to the 7th edition of the annual Product Conclave, which starts on Wednesday, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) showcased 10 software product start-ups on Tuesday.

Presenting the companies, Sharad Sharma, Chairperson, Nasscom Product Conclave, said: “Students in campuses are no longer content to join just any IT company. They want to join companies that are working with emerging technologies, not the traditional IT industry.”

Start-ups, which have been increasingly focusing on the domestic market in the last few years, have been driving innovation, Mr. Sharma said. However, he rued the failure of Indian companies to take advantage of the telecom boom by developing products suitable for the industry. “The product environment is such that only the great products will sell, not just the good ones,” he warned.

The conclave's two sub-themes — cloud computing and start-ups — were relevant at this point, Mr. Sharma said. The two-day event has “drawn unprecedented interest,” he added.
