1,90,578 units of the previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz models in India have been recalled.

Honda Cars will recall more than 1.90 lakh vehicles in India as part of its global campaign to fix faulty air bags made by Takata.

The recall, which will affect Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz models, will be the second largest such exercise by the company in India.

It will impact 22,483 units of Accord, 1,514 units of CR-V, 13,605 units of Civic, 1,37,270 units of City and 15,706 units of Jazz, manufactured between 2003 and 2011. The company has until now called back about 3.10 lakh vehicles (including this recall) in India alone over the issue.

Honda will “voluntarily replace Takata passenger front airbag inflators of 1,90,578 vehicles of previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz as part of Honda’s precautionary global recall campaign concerning Takata front airbag inflators.”

The replacement will be carried out free of cost across India in a phased manner, the company said. While the campaign for CR-V and Civic will begin immediately, the replacement of inflators for other affected models would begin from September 2016.

Millions of vehicles across brands, including BMW, Ford, General Motors, Nissan, and Toyota, have been affected and recalled globally due to defective safety airbag manufactured by Japan’s Takata Corp.
