Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is mulling promotion of business process outsourcing (BPO) in rural areas in association with its member companies and through centres of excellence.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, CII southern region Chairman and CEO and Managing Director of Infosys Technologies Limited, Bangalore, S. Gopalakrishnan said that “There is a tremendous possibility to set up the BPOs in rural areas as most of the citizen services are being provided in local or regional languages.”

He said BPOs were one significant sector that offered new possibility to tap the potential in rural areas and a holistic approach was being made in this regard.
