Hewlett Packard here on Thursday launched its HP Agile Accelerator, aimed at software developers who want a faster turnaround in their testing cycle. An addition to this latest version is a built-in resource planning module to help development teams better manage projects.
HP’s Director, Software and Solutions, Kamal Dutta, told reporters here that the need for faster and more flexible testing of enterprise application software was evident from the growing testing market, estimated to reach $13 billion with India expected to have a 70 per cent share by 2012.
With India’s exports in this sector steadily going up at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 17 per cent, the country may need 15,000 more professionals within a few years.

From the end-user angle, financial services and telecom would lead the demand for quicker modernisation of their business application products to better manage risk and cut costs, Mr. Dutta said. An example was the banking sector which, apart from expanding core banking links, wanted to sell an umbrella of products, mostly online.
Other verticals which wanted to improve business agility with faster response to changing business environments would also demand smoother transition to pre-tested application software.

Darryl Dickens, Head of Marketing for Asia Pacific and Japan, said an initiative by HP filled the anticipated shortage of qualified software testers in India by sponsoring students from underprivileged background, selected after aptitude testing to undergo a three months training at HP centres. The Indian Institute of Hardware Technology would be the partner.
