Godrej Consumer Q3 net jumps twofold

Boosted by a strong growth in its international business and an enhanced product portfolio, the home-grown FMCG player Godrej Consumer Products on Saturday reported a twofold jump in its consolidated net profit at Rs. 85 crore for the December quarter.

Total income rose to Rs. 528.6 crore for the reporting quarter against Rs. 353.9 crore in the same period previous fiscal.

“Continuing focus on optimising our product mix has enabled us to improve our profitability. Our international operations have also performed strongly during the period under review,” company Chairman Adi Godrej said in a statement here on Saturday.

During the reporting quarter, the company launched new variants of its flagship soap brand Godrej No 1 besides extending the Cinthol deodorant and complexion soap at more affordable price points of Rs. 6 and Rs. 15.

The company said while its international business grew by about 26 per cent, its domestic business increased by about 16 per cent during the reporting quarter. The company sells its products in South Africa, Australia, Canada, West Asia and European nations.

On a standalone basis, its net profit stood at Rs. 56 crore in the December quarter, up 43.95 per cent over the year-ago period.

The company board has proposed a third interim dividend for the year 2009-10 at the rate of Re. one per share.
