Open up economy further: Biden

U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden, on Wednesday, called on India to open its economy further to foreign investment to improve trade between the two countries.

Addressing business leaders here in a meeting on U.S.-India Partnership, Mr. Biden said that the experience of developed economies showed that the best way to boost growth was to open to the world. He also wanted India to improve the protection for intellectual property .

Mr. Biden said that India’s growth had slowed. “But we’re confidentthat India will continue to rise because we believe you will take the additional steps necessary to spur further growth and enhance your economic influence around the world, and, in the process, lift the whole world. We want to be your partner in that venture, in lifting the economy of the world.”
