Over six lakh foreigners visited India in Nov

With more than six lakh foreigners visiting the country, there was an increase in the foreign tourist arrivals in November.

There were 6.06 lakh foreign tourists in India during November compared to 5.28 lakh in November 2009 and 5.32 lakh in November 2008, according to the Tourism Ministry data.

In October, 4.87 lakh foreign tourists visited the country.

There has been a growth of 14.7 per cent in November 2010 over November 2009 as compared to the negative growth of 0.6 per cent registered in November 2009 over November 2008.

Growth rate in November (14.7 per cent) is higher than that of October 2010 (9.2 per cent) and September (12.6 per cent).

Delhi airport also registered an increase of 18.5 per cent in foreign tourists arrivals in November.

There were total 49.29 lakh foreign tourists during January—November 2010 with a growth rate of 10.4 per cent, as compared to 44.63 lakh foreigners and a negative growth rate of 6 per cent during January—November 2009 over the corresponding period of 2008.

Foreign exchange earnings from tourism in November were Rs 6,516 crores as compared to Rs 5,523 crores in November 2009 and Rs 4,935 crore in November 2008.
