The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) have agreed to carry out an exercise of mapping industrial growth and corresponding skill requirement over the next 10 years for Goa.
Representatives of the trade and industry bodies gave this assurance to the State Government here recently at the first meeting of the State Skill Development Mission constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
The mission is formed to devise and monitor skill development in the State. The first meeting of the Skill Development Mission was chaired by Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivatsava.

Mr. Srivatsava urged the trade and industry bodies to make skill gap analysis so that short-term courses can be devised to bridge the gap.
The Directorate-General of Employment and Training under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, in pursuance of excellence in vocational training, has developed a new strategic framework for skill development in close consultation with industry, State governments and experts.
Skill development is concerned with imparting acquisition of knowledge, skill and attitudes. Skill development contributes in enhancing individual’s employability and ability to adapt to changing technologies and labour market demands, thereby improving living standards of the common man, productivity and competitiveness, Rajeev Verma, Goa Secretary (Craftsmen Training), said while he gave a brief overview of the purpose of constitution of Skill Development Mission.

Mr. Srivatsava has emphasised that dropouts, who have passed class V/VI/VII, can avail this opportunity to develop their skill through Skill Development Initiative Scheme of the Government of India which offers around 1,500 short-term courses. Existing skill of individuals can be certified under this scheme.
