Ensure that customers keep coming back

BL: Book Value: The Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Marketing. _ by Bruce C. Brown.

Foremost in the list of techniques that Bruce C. Brown suggests for generating Web site traffic is to create a ‘What’s new’ or ‘New products’ page. Site visitors like to see what is new, trendy, or just released, and so make it easy for them, he guides, in ‘The Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Marketing’ (www.visionbooksindia.com).

Next technique that he suggests is to establish a promotion programme, with free products, trial samples, or discount coupons on offer. ‘Establish a contest,’ reads the third technique, citing the example of Atlantic Publishing Company’s Top 50 Restaurant Web sites. In the mid-1990s, the company embraced the Internet with a very basic site, featuring a full list of their product lines, pricing and ordering information, the author traces. Now, the site speaks of the recently kick-off of ‘Superior Restaurant Website Contest’. “In years past we used to review each site and provide candid feedback and comments about each site, which was very well received. Our plan is to create a Top Restaurant Website contest where you submit what you think is the ‘Best of the Best’ and we will publish those sites, along with web links to your site,” the page informs.

In a section on ‘using press releases to generate exposure,’ the author notes that most press releases, while being informative, may just be skimmed through, unless they are newsworthy. Incorporate the audio or video clips to complement a written press release, he advises. Urging sites to publish customer testimonials, Brown reminds that no matter how flashy or impressive your Web site may look, the factors that ensure customers keep coming back are customer service, satisfaction, and reliability.
