Secret revealed: Shubhra Krishan at the book launch.

Whenever we are in a restaurant we often wonder whether it is possible to create the same delicacy at home. The recipes, however, keep sitting in the restaurant kitchen like a secret. Thankfully, Shubhra Krishan, author of Thinner Dinner , decodes some of these secrets in her latest book.

Titled Top Secret , the book contains recipes from the city’s best restaurants and tops it up with a tip or two for newbie cooks. The recipes range from the tandoori broccoli of Punjabi By Nature, to the butter chicken and paneer makhni of Havemore, aloo nazakat of Baluchi and dal jamavar of Jamavar among others. “All the recipes mentioned in the book are my personal favourites which I encountered while going through the a la carte,” says Krishan.

Top Secret made me extra plump. I used to go to different restaurants to discover a new dish. And this repeat pattern launched me into this book,” shares Krishan while talking about her motivation to write the book.

Gathering recipes was a mix of emotions for Krishan. While many sat with her cheerfully revealing their secrets, some turned a deaf ear. The missing biggies list includes Karim’s, The Taj Group and The Oberoi among others.

The author plans to dedicate her next book to the signature cuisines of metro cities. One can only hope Krishan will add a pinch or two about their presentations as well; a factor the reader might crave for after reading this book.
