Children’s Laureate
Noughts and Crosses author Malorie Blackman has been named Britain's Children's Laureate. The post recognises outstanding achievement and the importance of exceptional authors in encouraging reading.
Blackman, whose books tackle issues including racism and ethnic identity will use the role to get “more young people reading more.”

“I aim to make reading more irresistible and I want more children to love and be enthusiastic about stories and books,” she said. She will promote the availability of a wider range of literature for children.
New Book
Jonah Lehrer, the best-selling author who has acknowledged using fake quotes and had two books pulled, has reached agreement on a new book.

Simon & Schuster announced Thursday that it will publish a book by Lehrer with the working title The Book of Love . No publication date has been set.
Lehrer had written three previous books for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Women’s Prize
U.S. author AM Homes has won the Women’s Prize for Fiction for her book, May We Be Forgiven.
The 30,000-pound award, formerly known as the Orange Prize, was presented at a ceremony in London by actress Miranda Richardson, the chairwoman of the judging panel.
Richardson said Homes’ book was chosen because it “most ably fulfils the criteria of this award: originality, accessibility and excellence.”
