Of war heroes

First he dissected the famous Charge of the Light Brigade with Hell Riders: The Truth About the Charge of the Light Brigade. Now historian and author Terry Brighton moves to World War II with Patton, Montgomery, Rommel: Masters of War . Focusing on the three famous generals, Brighton's narrative begins in Africa in 1942 and leads up to the German fall in 1945.

Brighton brings into play not just facts of the action on the ground but also how the personalities of the three men played a role. Brighton also portrays Britain's war hero Bernard Montgomery as one who often took credit for others' plans and blamed others for the failure of his own. He has his own take on Rommel's death. According to him Rommel advised surrender to the Allies to stop the Russians from entering Berlin.
