Oscar nomination
His DAM 999 may not have met with the desired success in his homeland, India, but NRI producer-director Sohan Roy (Biz TV) seems to have another winner up his sleeve. His forthcoming production, Saint Dracula 3D , directed by Rupesh Paul has been included in the preliminary list of nominations for Best Feature Film category for the 85 Oscars. Says Rupesh, whose earlier attempt, My Mother’s Laptop (2008) didn’t quite do well, “ Saint Dracula 3D is an out and out British production with Mitch Powell in the lead role opposite Patricia Duarte. The background score and songs, which have also been nominated in the respective categories, are by Srivalsan J. Menon from Kerala. Since my first film, I have been making several short films and when I got this opportunity to do a film for Biz TV, I was quite elated. I am glad that the film has been getting the required attention and hope it will make it to the final list. This in itself proves that the film has good content.” Saint Dracula 3D is making India proud along with another movie Akashathinte Niram (Colour of the Sky) by Malayalam film director Dr. Biju, which also got nominated in the Best Film category. India also has two nominations in the animation category, for films, Delhi Safari and Hey Krishna .

Love and bonding
Actor Nasser’s first directorial venture was Avatharam (1995) which was followed by Devathai (1997), Maayan (2001) and Popcorn (2003). He is now busy with Sun Sun Thatha in which his son Abi is being introduced. “Actually, the film was completed two years ago when my son was around 12 years, but it was not meant to be his debut film. I kept it in abeyance for some time but decided recently to complete it. In fact, a month ago, it was released for two shows in just one theatre. Now, I plan to do a full-fledged release in many theatres. Sun Sun Thatha is a story of a boy, his father and a god-father. I play Abi’s father while Dato Jamali Sadath, a Malaysian actor, plays the god-father. It is the story of a lonely boy who yearns for his parents’ love and affection, they being constantly away on work. That’s where the god-father comes in and the movie is all about their bonding,” says Nasser.
