Jaya Bachchan honoured

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a film festival here for her “inspiring contribution to Indian cinema.”

The 61-year-old actress was presented the award by Pushpinder Chowdhry, Director of the ‘Tongues on fire' film festival, and writer Kishwar Desai at a ceremony held at the British Academy of Film & Television Arts on Friday.

The 10-day long festival is dedicated to the cinema cultures of South Asia.

The actress described the award as a “very significant one” as it was given to her outside India.

Ms. Bachchan started her career at the age of 15 with Satyajit Ray's Bengali film Mahanagar (1963), and has acted in films like Guddi , Chalte Chalte and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in her 40-year-long career.
