Actress Sonal Sehgal, who is debuting on the silver screen with Himesh Reshammiya-starrer ‘Radio’, says the shift from the TV world to movies is difficult for actors.

“There is so much of competition. So many actors from small screen want to make it big in the Bollywood,” said Sonal, who was last seen in Hindi serials like ‘Hotel Kingston’ and ‘Saara Akash’.

“I came to know about open-auditions for Nagesh Kukunoor’s ‘Aashayein’ I just walked in and got selected,” she said. “Thankfully, Nagesh is not one of those filmmakers from whom your background matters. He is only concerned whether you fit the part,” she added.

“And once you get your first break, then things can be pretty easy. Then no one calls you a TV actor,” Sonal told PTI.

Though Sonal had signed ‘Aashayein’ first, she is all set to make her debut with ‘Radio’

‘Aashayein’ would be released next year, she said.

‘Radio’ has been directed by Ishaan Trivedi, whose earlier work comprises ‘71/2 Phere’ and ‘Bachelor’s Party’

Besides Sonal, it features Himesh Reshammiya and Shenaz Treasurywala.

Sonal had acted in an English movie ‘U, Bomsi n Me’ (2005) which was directed by Jairaj Padmanabhan.

“The movie was in English and was released in Mumbai only. “So, Radio, is my debut in Bollywood,” she maintains.

Sonal plays Pooja in ‘Radio’. The movie has a very fresh and contemporary take on relationships, she said.

“The movie opens with Vivan played by Himesh and Pooja getting divorced,” she said.

“Parting ways does not necessarily mean the end of a relationship. Love in a relationship is a habit and therefore continues to linger on,” Sonal said.

“You tend to be with the person even if you are no longer with him or her. This hitherto unexplored facet of relationship is highlighted in ‘Radio’,” she said.

“You can be divorced, but still can be friends is what ’Radio’ is all about”, said Sonal who has some interesting movies lined up after ‘Radio’

Next year, she will be having three releases, namely ‘Aashayein’, ‘Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’ and ‘Ishq Unplugged’

She is currently shooting for Milap Jhaveri’s ‘Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’ along with Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandes and Ruslaan Mumtaz.

Sonal is the wife of Naresh Kamath, who is a key member of the band ‘Kailasa’
