Pakistani troops on Tuesday targeted 12 border outposts (BOPs) along the International Border (IB) in Jammu. BSF troops retaliated, resulting in exchange of fire. A BSF spokesman said, “Pakistani Rangers resorted to firing of small arms and mortar shells on BOPs along IB in Kanachak and Pargwal sectors of Jammu district from 0540 hours.”
There was no loss of life or injury to anyone on the BSF side, he added.
According to reports, mortar shells also landed in civilian areas triggering panic in Kanachak and Pargwal forward areas.
On August 2 and 3, Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire four times by resorting to small arms firing in forward posts along LoC in Krishnagati, Mandi, Balakote and Pallanwala sectors of Poonch and Jammu districts.
There have been 8 ceasefire violations by Pakistan Rangers in August.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army alleged that firing by Indian troops across the LoC has left five persons, including three children, injured on its side.
Infiltration bid foiled
The BSF foiled an infiltration bid by two militants along the IB in Jammu. “Two terrorists were seen moving suspiciously during the night and again observed in the wee hours opposite Kanachak area in Jammu district”, a BSF officer said.
They were waiting to infiltrate or snipe, he said, adding BSF troops opened fire to foil the bid.
