India-USA Logistics Support Agreement - what does it mean?

As part of Defence Secretary Ashton Carter's visit, India and U.S.A. have agreed to share military supplies -- first proposed in 2004 and resisted by the UPA government for a decade -- under an agreement called LEMOA (Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement). What does this mean for our defence and overall geopolitical stance?
