We hit target in Balakot, didn’t count casualties: IAF chief

If we had not why did Pakistan retaliate, asks ACM Dhanoa

“We don’t count human casualties, we count what targets we have hit or not hit,” Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief, Air Chief Marshal (ACM) B.S. Dhanoa, told the media at the Air Force Station, Sulur, here on Monday.

He was responding to questions on the number of casualties in the Balakot air strikes last week. ACM Dhanoa also said he would not comment on “ongoing operations.”

“The statement on casualties will be made by the government. The IAF is not in a position to clarify on how many people were there,” he said.

There have been varying claims on the number of terrorists killed in the strikes. BJP president Amit Shah had claimed on Sunday that over 250 were killed.

“If we plan to hit the target, we hit the target. Otherwise why would they (Pakistan) respond? If we had dropped bombs in the jungle, there was no need for them (Pakistan) to respond,” said the Air Chief.
