Two more farmers end life in Kalaburagi, Bidar districts

A 53-year-old debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at his house in Chakar Savalagi village in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district on Thursday, taking the number of farmers who had committed suicide so far in the district to 30.

The deceased was identified as Saidappa Kumbar. The farmer had cultivated banana on four acres of his land and suffered crop loss as he could not provide adequate water supply due to irregular power supply.

The farmer was not in a position to repay Rs. 4 lakh loans he had taken from banks and moneylenders.

A case has been registered at the Deval Ganagapur police station.

In Humnabad

In Bidar district, Krishnappa Idilayi (70) committed suicide by reportedly consuming poison at his house in Nirna village in Humnabad taluk on Wednesday.

He owned three acres of land and had taken loans of Rs. 1.6 lakh from banks and cooperative societies.

His two sons work on the family farm.

Tahsildar D.M. Pani and Circle Inspector of Police Shivanand Pavadshetty visited the family.
