Straight Bat's souvenir

CHENNAI: Straight Bat, the monthly newsletter on cricket brought out by veteran cricket administrator and former TNCA vice-president S.R. Jagannathan, has come out with a special souvenir to mark Tuesday's India-South Africa one-day international.

Ever since the Carl Hooper-led West Indies played in Chennai in 2002, Straight Bat has been bringing out special souvenirs for every international cricket match in the city. Articles by leading cricket writers and statistical details give the reader a preview on the current India-South Africa series. With rare photographs to back, the special edition throws light on South Africa's great cricketers, who did not play beyond their own country due to the apartheid. How South Africa returned to world cricket has also been discussed.

A special section on how white cricket balls came to be used in one-day matches is another attraction as is the glossy cover with the rival captains on it. A good read for cricket lovers.
