Sports achievers felicitated

BANGALORE: "It's a dozen this year... .I want it to be 120 or more in the next... ." said Chairman R. Chenraj Jain, of the Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, as the achievers from the College trotted up to accept their mementoes and say a few words about their success.

Jain College has been in the forefront of sporting excellence in Bangalore for the past couple of years and with the likes of World double billiards champion Pankaj Advani, `swim sensation' Shikha Tandon, national badminton champion Anup Sridhar and cricketers like Robin Uthappa and Gaurav Dhiman in its midst, the college was never short of laurels and media attention, year round.

U.V. Shankar, Director of Sports, SBMJC and the man behind the success of the institution in the sports arena conjured up this `achievers day' felicitation more in quest for the newcomers to take the cue and focus on their sporting dreams.

The achievers for 2004-05 are: Pankaj Advani (Billiards & Snooker), Shikha Tandon (swimming), Robin Uthappa, Gaurav Dhiman, Ganesh Satish and A. Sindhu (all cricket), Arjun Goutham (tennis), Anup Sridhar and Anshuman Hazarika (both badminton), Sanjay Raj, Kaushal R. and Sonam Deep Kaur (all for basketball).

The college is tying up with Australia's Griffith University for a regular exchange of sportsmen. — Sports Reporter
