Sethi, Advani and Mehta in scintillating form

New Delhi: The Indian cueist trio of Geet Sethi, Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta looked in ominous form as they won their group matches with consummate ease at the ongoing IBSF World under-21 and seniors snooker championships in Manama, Bahrain.

While Pankaj Advani blanked Paul Wilcock of Isle of Man 4-0 and Aditya Mehta mauled Kiwi Shanon Swain by an identical margin on Thursday, veteran Geet Sethi dropped the third frame on his way to a 3-1 win against Mustafa Ali Atta of Egypt — according to information received here.

Former World champion Advani was in complete control of the proceedings against Wilcock and the 20-year-old Indian recorded a break of 72 before carving out a 64-21, 45-35, 78-1, 76-66 win. Though Advani was not consistent, the third frame saw him in his element while Wilcock was reduced to a mere spectator.

In the senior event, former World billiards champion Geet Sethi started on a positive note winning the first two frames without much trouble before Mustafa Ali Atta came back winning the third frame. But that worked as a wake up call for the Indian who went on to win the match 65-37, 64-33, 31-61, 55-48.

Meanwhile, Aditya Mehta continues to impress all with his stunning display in the under-21 category.

Unbeaten in the tournament so far, Mehta toyed with his opponent Shanon Swain before recording a thumping win. The Indian was in scintillating form, especially after the first frame and the next two frames were completely one-sided affairs.

Mehta scored a break of 51 before thrashing the New Zealander 63-48, 90-4, 72-8, 70-20 to complete a 4-0 routing.— UNI
