NAGPUR, JAN. 20. With their patience paying off, K. Sasikiran, Dibyendu Barua and Sriram Jha caught up with overnight leaders P. Hari Krishna and Surya Sekhar Ganguly at 3.5 points after four rounds of the BPCL National `A' chess championship here on Sunday.

Once Pravin Thipsay accepted Ganguly's draw-offer on the 14th turn before Grandmasters Abhijit Kunte and Hari decided not to continue after 18 moves, seven of the remaining eight boards proved decisive.

Sasikiran checked D. V. Prasad's early blitzkrieg and won in 45 moves of Najdorf. Prasad, who reeled off the first 20 moves in as many minutes, soon lost his way besides a rook for a knight. A forced sequence of moves saw Sasikiran trap Prasad's knight and win.

Barua called the shots against Varugeese Koshy and won their English Opening game in 64 moves. Barua played a superb end-game once he had a rook and two pawns for Koshy's five pawns.

Jha, after seeing through the opening surprise by V. Saravanan, kept up the pressure. Later, Saravanan fumbled under time-pressure and blundered away a crucial pawn to lose in 77 moves.

Debutant P. Magesh Chandran capitalised on a late blunder by R. B. Ramesh to win in 68 moves. WGM S. Vijayalakshmi remained scoreless after Chandrashekhar Gokhale inflicted a 45- move defeat, her fourth in as many days.

The results (fourth round): Varugeese Koshy (1) lost to Dibyendu Barua (3.5); Chandrasekhar Gokhale (3) bt S. Vijayalakshmi (0); D. V. Prasad (1) lost to K. Sasikiran (3.5); R. B. Ramesh (1.5) lost to P. Magesh Chandran (1.5); Vishal Sareen (2.5) bt N. Sudhakar Babu (1); Pravin Thipsay (2) drew with Surya Sekhar Ganguly (3.5); P. Konguvel (1.5) drew with Swati Ghate (1); Neeraj Kumar Mishra (2) bt B. T. Muralikrishnan (1); Abhijit Kunte (2) drew with P. Hari Krishna (3.5); Sriram Jha (3.5) bt V. Saravanan (1).

Fifth round pairings: Saravanan-Koshy; Hari-Jha; Muralikrishnan-Kunte; Swati-Mishra; Ganguly-Konguvel; Babu-Thipsay; Magesh-Sareen; Sasikiran-Ramesh; Vijayalakshmi- Prasad and Barua-Gokhale.
