Sankar to officiate in Asian Cup finals

CHENNAI, JUNE 1. India's Komaleeswaran Sankar, a FIFA Assistant Referee, has been nominated for the Asian Cup finals, starting in China on July 17. This is the third time that this Indian Bank employee from Chennai has been selected to officiate in the Asian Championship.

In all 14 Referees and as many Assistant Referees have been nominated by the Asian Football Confederation for the premier championship. The 28 officials are scheduled to arrive in Beijing on July 13, four days before the start of the tournament.

Aside from a seminar on July 14, the selected officials would undergo fitness test the next day before proceeding to respective venues.

Sankar was the first Indian to officiate in a FIFA World Cup when he did duty at the 2002 edition hosted jointly by Japan and Korea.
