Orissa in final

KOLKATA OCT. 5. Orissa confirmed its emerging status as one of the serious football playing states in the distaff side by making its maiden entry into the final of the second girls' under-19 National football championship at the KASA ground in Diphu (Assam) on Saturday. Orissa outplayed Assam 4-1.

The second half proved rather decisive as the Orissa team captain Sudipta Dash gave the vital breakthrough with a 49th minute strike. Three minutes later Thunki Munda, an adivasi girl, put Orissa 2-0 up before Sudipta returned to hammer the team's third goal. The Assam girls lost the heart to fight as the fate of the game emerged clear.

Meenakshi Borgohain pulled one back in the 66th minute in a brief resistance. But Laxmi Priya Sahu struck Orissa's fourth goal a minute before close to confirm Orissa's superiority in no uncertain manner.
