One-day team selection deferred

Kolkata Dec. 24. Chairman of national selectors Syed Kirmani today said the Indian team's selection for the three-nation one-day series in Australia had been deferred till December 28 to give the `A' team players a couple of more matches to prove themselves.

Talking to newspersons here Mr. Kirmani said, ``We don't want to hurry things. That's the reason the selection was deferred from December 26 to 28. We want to give the boys a few more matches.''

India takes on Australia and Zimbabwe in a tri-series from the second week of January. ``Before the team selection, we will definitely have a tele-conference with the team management in Australia to get their opinion. We are also keeping a close eye on the Test squad. After considering every aspect we will select the team, which will consist of either 15 or 16 players as per requirement,'' Kirmani said.

Asked if Deep Dasgupta would be considered for the limited over series as the wicketkeeper, he said, ``Let's see. We still have four days before we select the team.'' — UNI
