Mumbai Marathon to support a noble cause

MUMBAI, NOV. 29. The Essar Group has teamed up with Akanksha Foundation to bring joy into the life of 200 children via the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2005. These poor children will be trained to take part in the `Dream Run', with the company contributing a specified amount per participant towards the corpus fund of the foundation. The project is called `Miles for Smiles'.

Shaheen Mistri, founder of Akanksha Foundation, pointed out how this tie-up would effect the lives of under-privileged children. "This is about everyone's potential... about our children running and earning money to support their education at Akanksha.

And Essar's runners running to support our children." Essar will pledge a donation to Akanksha on behalf of celebrities expected to take part in the Mumbai Marathon for the noble cause.

Sanjay Mehta, MD and CEO of Essar Shipping, addressing a media briefing, said, "our association with Akanksha is a demonstration of our commitment to educate under-privileged children in order to give them their rightful place in society."

The Mumbai Marathon will be run on January 16, 2005 along the Mumbai seafront.
