KOLKATA: Conditions in India will test the Australians says former fast bowler Michael Kasprowicz. The well-built pacer, on a promotional tour to the city, felt that India was always a tough country to tour and the world champion’s seven-match ODI series later this year would be a real challenge.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Kasprowicz said despite the tough conditions, Australia’s experience would enable the team to perform successfully.
After the ODI series, the Indians are set to tour Down Under for a full series. Kasprowicz said it would be interesting to see how the Indian bowlers, some of them would be touring Australia for the first time, adapt to the conditions there.
Interesting series
“I expect an interesting series when India tour Australia,” he said. “I am looking forward to the duel between two premier batsmen in the world: Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar.”
A veteran of 38 Tests and 43 ODI for his country, Kasprowicz toured India thrice in his career with some success. The 35-year-old paceman, out of the National squad owing to injuries, did appear keen to regain his place in the team but could not fix a time limit for his return. “Like any other Australian, I am keen to get back my place,” he said.
Kasprowicz’s last Test match for Australia was against South Africa in early 2006 and his last ODI against England was in July 2005.
To a question on the Indian Cricket League, he said he never got an invitation to join it nor he had any intention of doing so.
