Loganathan claims title

Chennai Nov. 13. R. Loganathan of Q-Shot put up a good show in the three-leg Abirami Mega Mall State senior ranking snooker tournament and captured the title with a 33-67, 74-43, 59-48, 53-42, 67-43, 48-73, 75-0, 49-24 victory over Prem Prakash of Champion Billiards Academy, Coimbatore, at the TNBSA premises here on Thursday.

Even before the final Loganathan, a 32-year-old pool parlour manager, had captured the title by finishing third in the first leg and winning the second leg. The result of this final would not have made any difference in his finishing first in the competition.

It was a major success in his career which began in 1994. Since then he has been steadily moving up the ladder. With this win Loganathan became No. 1 in the State and he along with Prem Prakash will represent the State in the coming National snooker championship in Gwalior.

It took some time for Loganathan to settle down. That gave Prem an opportunity to take the first frame comfortably. But Loganathan, who represented Tamil Nadu in the last National championship at Jammu, found his touch in the second frame. He was coming with a few good breaks now and then to keep ahead of Prem Prakash.

When he led by four frames to one it was clear that he went beyond the reach of anybody. So Prem Prakash had to settle for No. 2 spot. Having routed his rival in the seventh frame, Loganathan expressed his happiness for his major achievement in the State ranking tournament.

The final placings: 1. R. Loganathan (24 pts.) 2. Prem Prakash (CBA-12) 3.Wasim Ahmed (SRSA-11) 4. M.K. Harinarayana (MCC-10) 5-7: M.C. Manoj (MCC), J. Varun Kumar (SRSA), Sandeep Samuel (Break Point)-5 8. S.H. Kamaraj (SVS -4).
