JAMMU JAN. 3. Dharminder Lilly recovered from the shocking Thursday's loss and handed Pankaj Advani the first defeat in the Jammu Nationals.

But for a missed pink ball in the sixth frame, it would have been a different story in the Group `B' match between Pankaj and Lilly, in the 69th senior National snooker championship at the Hari Niwas Palace here on Friday.

For Lilly, his existence depended on this match after having lost to Jaswinder Singh. On the other hand, Pankaj had a reputation to defend. Testing each other early on with safety shots, Lilly went into the overdrive by creating a space for himself on the top table. Pankaj seemed disturbed by `purposeful' chattering sound created from the sidelines by Lilly's supporters.

The double junior National champion, Pankaj, started afresh in the second frame after referee had warned the trickers. He opened with a break of 37 and set up a good lead that Lilly never threatened to overhaul.

Later in the evening, Lilly made a short work of Tamil Nadu's R. Loganathan to put himself on the safe side in the toughest of all groups. Lilly won 57-36, 64-43, 40-48, 77-39, 89-12.

Defending champion Alok Kumar never fails to impress. Down 0-1 against a promising Madhya Pradesh youngster, Kanishk Jhanjharia, Alok answered the call with a classy century break — the first of the tournament. In a pink-black finish, Jhanjharia had outsmarted Alok and won the first frame 62-50.
