Arjun Kadhe prevailed over seventh seed Pedja Krstin of Serbia in the first round of the $150,000 Challenger tennis tournament here on Monday.

Arjun led 7-6(6), 3-0 when the Serb retired. The victory ensured a minimum of nine ATP points and $2580 for Arjun.

Ramkumar Ramanathan, the top seed, is the other Indian in the singles main draw.

In the $25,000 ITF women’s tournament in Nonthaburi, Y. Pranjala made the second round of singles and partnered Rutuja Bhosale to make the doubles quarterfinals.

The results: $150,000 Challenger, Jinan, China: Singles (first round): Arjun Kadhe bt Pedja Krstin (Srb) 7-6(6), 3-0 (retired).

$25,000 ITF women, Nonthaburi: Singles (first round): Y. Pranjala bt Moyuka Uchijima (Jpn) 6-2, 4-6, 6-4; Shiho Akita (Jpn) bt Rutuja Bhosale 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Doubles (first round ): Rutuja & Pranjala bt Destanee Aiava (Aus) & Karman Kaur Thandi 6-3, 7-5 .
