Joshna triumphs

CHENNAI: India's Joshna Chinappa lived up to the reputation as the top seed to beat Annie Au of Hong Kong to clinch the Under-19 girl's title in the Milo All Stars Malaysian junior open squash 2005 at the Astaka Squash Centre in Selangor on Saturday.

The Indian national champion and the defending Asian junior champion, playing her last junior event prior to the World junior championship in Belgium in August, beat the second seed Annie Au of Hong Kong 9-3, 9-2, 9-2 to clinch the title in style. The Hong Kong girl had stretched the Indian to four close games in the Asian championship held in Chennai in January. Keen to do well in the World championship next this win should do a world of good to the Indian challenger.

More so after she had gone through a tough semi-final match against Sally Looi of Malaysia in the semi-final. The score-line 9-10, 9-4, 5-9, 9-5, 9-3 aptly reflected the closeness of that match which the Malaysian seemed close to pulling off particularly when the Indian began to tire by the fourth game. But according to information received here sheer experience and the ability to come up with pleasing strokes when needed most helped Joshna to scalp the Malaysian.
